Regional Law 9/91 assigns Opera Universitaria responsibility for providing assistance services to university students, including housing, which is particularly important in promoting student housing.
In the case of Opera Universitaria, the demand for housing from the student community far exceeds the available supply. Due to the lack of owned, rented, or subsidized housing, and the limitations imposed by current regulations regarding income and merit requirements, a large portion of students seeking housing in Trento cannot find a place in the institution’s residences, finding themselves forced to resort to the private market.
Current legislation promotes and encourages all initiatives aimed at encouraging student housing. In particular:
Prime Ministerial Decree of April 9, 2001, art. 9, paragraph 9: “Housing services include all interventions aimed at facilitating university attendance for non-resident students through surveying demand, providing information on housing availability, and searching for and offering accommodation. Regional management bodies provide non-resident students who do not benefit from housing with a consultancy service, with adequate publicity, for rental agreements with private individuals in collaboration with student, tenant, and property associations.”
Legislative Decree of March 29, 2012, no. 68, art. 13, paragraph 1: Institutions that offer education services to ensure that the needs of capable and deserving students, even those lacking financial resources, are met, as well as to promote the attractiveness of the university system, also promote integrated planning for the availability of public and private housing, including through specific agreements with the social partners, legally recognized university colleges, and the colleges referred to in Article 1, paragraph 603, of Law No. 296 of 27 December 2006.
Opera Universitaria is the organization that promotes the right to education. Its primary purpose is to offer a wide range of services aimed at supporting the university students population, from housing to dining, from culture to sports.
Through this portal, Opera aims to facilitate the matching of supply and demand for students seeking housing and property owners in the Trentino region. Opera ensures the clarity and transparency of the information contained on the portal.
For small private owners only, Opera will verify that the listing corresponds to a property actually located at the declared address and equipped with the declared services.
Once the private owner uploads the listing, Opera undertakes to contact the landlord to arrange an inspection. If the property complies with the listing’s description – in terms of location and amenities – it will be highlighted on the website with an OU sticker.
Between the time the listing is placed by the private owner and inspection by Opera, the listing will be displayed on the noticeboard, but without the OU stamp.
Opera is committed to ensuring the utmost respect for user privacy by adopting all security measures deemed appropriate to ensure the confidentiality and privacy of personal data, as defined by applicable laws.
